The founder and Managing Director of Stellar Engines Ltd is Dr Kelvin F. Long. He has a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, a Master's Degree in Astrophysics, and a Doctorate in Physics specialising in Laser-Fusion Propulsion. He previously worked for the UK Ministry of Defence for over 12 years on ballistic missile related technologies working with the US laboratories LANL and LLNL. He is also a Chartered Member Institute of Physics, an experienced author with dozens of technical peer reviewed papers published. He manages all of the projects and programs under Stellar Engines, and ensures their delivery to the client. He has also spent a lot of time in the United States working with US Companies. He has lectured at every NASA centre including the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. He spent five years as a visiting lecturer to the International Space University and three years as a continuing education lecturer at Reading University. He has also given lectures at many UK and US Universities and institutions and has worked as a consultant to the USAF.

Stellar Engines Ltd has access to a wide network of scientists, physicists, engineers, artists that it can pull together behind any one specific project.  The role of SEL is to manage that team and the delivery of the project, and all contractors are required to sign a non-disclosure agreement and undergo careful due diligence before they are allowed to work on any SEL associated projects. This model has been developed over several years and has been shown to work well. We adopt a Skunkworks management philosophy. The maintenance of a small bespoke team, used on a contract only basis, also helps to ensure an efficient project but keeping the overall costs at a competitive level. All of our contractors are highly qualified, usually degree trained or above, and each has a specialist area of expertise which is of use to us.
